From the beginning of my loc journey, my locs have always sparked several questions from those who were not familiar with them. The biggest loc myth that I’ve had to debunk is the idea that “locs smell, because people with locs do not wash- or take care of their hair.” I try to not take offense to this notion.
History has often associated dreadlocks with Rastafari culture, and as history tells, Rastas see locs as a way of keeping themselves in a pure state of mind as God intended. They were used as a symbolic statement of disregard for physical appearance.
However, today in 2020, that ideology isn't as common, and loc maintenance has become a full-blown profession. Loc upkeep includes washing your locs, and keeping them smelling fresh! Here are three tips to keeping your locks feeling and smelling clean.
TIP #1
WASH YOUR HAIR
The myth that “if you have locks you can't wash your hair” is completely untrue. Cleansing will break down product build up, and unclog your hair follicles. Clogged hair follicles lead to clogged scalp sweat glands which can create an unpleasant odor. Use the CLARIFY YOUR MANE Clarifying Shampoo to remove gunk, and build up at your roots. This is the perfect product to deep clean & nourish your hair follicles.
TIP #2
USE LIGHT MOISTURIZERS & OILS
Using a light moisturizer like a spray leave-in conditioner or your favorite essential oil will also help limit the build up on your scalp. Both products are easily absorbed, and with the right ingredients will leave your locs smelling spectacular.
The OOLI ON POINT Moisture Bundle has a light leave-in spray, and essential oil mix that includes ingredients like mango butter, shea butter, aloe vera juice, grape seed, and peppermint oil. After application you might find yourself tempted to eat your locs. Yummy!
TIP #3
TRY A FRAGRANCE OIL
Using a hair fragrance will give your locs a pleasant, and fresh scent. In addition it’s oil based so it will provide moisturization as well. Try out the LOC’D IN LOVE Hair Fragrance. It smells great, and works around the clock nourishing your hair with olive oil, jojoba oil, and my favorite, sunflower oil.
I’ve been looking for a good product for my locs and your products sound amazing enough to try them😊
Sounds great where can I get these products?
